In conjunction with the third edition of the Baba Nyonya Literary Festival (27 to 28 July 2024), TPAS is pleased to launch a writing competition to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of Peranakan culture through the power of storytelling. Please refer to images below for the rules.

The primary aim of this competition is to encourage writers of all backgrounds to explore and express the essence of Peranakan culture through creative storytelling. By fostering literary engagement, we hope to raise awareness and appreciation for the diverse traditions, customs, and experiences that define the Peranakan identity.

Participants are invited to delve into the multifaceted aspects of Peranakan heritage, drawing inspiration from themes such as:

* Family dynamics and traditions
* Culinary delights and recipes passed down through generations
* Language, folklore and superstitions
* Cultural fusion and adaptation in art, music and fashion
* Historical events and iconic landmarks
* Personal anecdotes and reflections on Peranakan identity

Prizes
1. Chance to be published in THE PERANAKAN e-magazine or TPAS’ social media platforms.
2. For both the Youth and Open categories:
First prize SGD200 (or equivalent amount in currency of country winner is from)
Second prize SGD150 (or equivalent amount in currency of country winner is from)
Third prize SGD100 (or equivalent amount in currency of country winner is from)
