Dear Nyonyas and Babas,

In this month’s video, I am joined by Baba Alvin Oon, Director of Peranakan Sayang, and Nyonya Theresa Tan, TPAS’ Second Vice-President.

Baba Alvin shares that his  plans for Peranakan Sayang in 2024 would be to put up more shows, both online and live performances. He is excited that the online shows have been reaching Peranakan communities outside of Singapore, thereby helping to spread Peranakan culture in the region. Do check out Peranakan Sayang’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/peranakansayang) for the upcoming shows, starting with the one that will be taking place close to the Lunar New Year. Baba Alvin also shares that he will  be bringing back Virtually Peranakan Fest (a weekend of fun activities, interactions, and performances) this year. He hopes to be able to stage a musical like Proudly Peranakan (staged in Singapore Chinese Girls School last year) this year and some pop-up concerts, and urges everyone to partake in the fun.

As the new year begins, Nyonya Theresa reminds all that The Peranakan magazine has transitioned to a digital format and may be found here: https://www.peranakan.org.sg/theperanakanmagazine/. She would like to call for contributions  of articles for the magazine and for volunteers to come forward to help run the many activities that TPAS is organising. Our popular cooking demonstrations will resume in March 2024, so do sign up early when  registration opens. Do also encourage your friends and family to join TPAS as members by signing up here: https://www.peranakan.org.sg/membership/, so that we can all do our part to keep the culture alive.

We wish all of you a Happy Lunar New Year – Selamat Taon Baru!! We hope you enjoy watching our video clips as much as we enjoy putting them together.

Warm wishes,

Nyonya Genevieve Peggy Jeffs
