Dear Nyonyas and Babas,

In this month’s video, I’m joined by Baba Emeric Lau, Baba Ervin Han, Nyonya Sakura W and Baba J.Nathania. This August, in line with Singapore’s 61st birthday, we are spotlighting a production of national significance.

We chat with Baba Ervin, Writer-Director of the Annecy Cristal Award-winning animated feature The Violinist, about the life story of a Peranakan protagonist growing up in Singapore during the war-torn 1940s. Two young TPAS members from the production team at Robot Playground Media, Nyonya Sakura and Baba J, also share their contributions and insights on the movie.

It took almost a decade and multiple animation studios across the globe to bring The Violinist to the screen, and the result is a tender and touching movie which all Singaporeans can take to heart.

TPAS congratulates Baba Ervin and his team, and we look forward to seeing The Violinist achieve even greater success in Singapore and internationally.

Warm wishes,

Nyonya Genevieve Peggy Jeffs
