Dear Nyonyas and Babas,
In this month’s video, I am joined by Baba Alvin Teo, President of Gunong Sayang Association (GSA), Baba Frederick Soh, Vice President of GSA and TPAS GC Member Dr Noreen Chan.
Baba Alvin and Baba Frederick are here to share about their upcoming fundraising gala dinner, Malam Budaya, which will be held on Saturday, 20 September 2025, 7.00 pm at the One Farrer Hotel, Ballroom (Level 6). Guests can look forward to a rich programme, with highlights including the Kebaya UNESCO showcase tracing the evolution of kebaya collections, a jewellery presentation, a model fashion show, and an eight-course Chinese dinner. There will also be a pre-event bazaar beginning at 6.30 pm featuring vendors from both Singapore and Indonesia, offering exquisite batik, kebaya, and other heritage items.
In addition, I am delighted to introduce our newest GC member, Dr Noreen Chan, who will be conducting a Cherki workshop, on Saturday, 4 October 2025. For those unfamiliar, Cherki is a traditional Peranakan card game that combines strategy, wit, and cultural flair. Once a favourite pastime among Nyonyas and Babas, it is now enjoying a revival as a way to connect with heritage while having fun in a social setting. This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for both newcomers and seasoned players to learn, play, and keep this unique tradition alive.
