Dear Nyonyas and Babas,
I am happy to share that we have just returned from a delightful trip to Melaka, Malaysia to attend the 34th International Baba Nyonya Convention. We will share more about this in our December video.
In this month’s video, I am joined by Nyonya Miriam Yeo, Assistant Curator of the National Museum of Singapore.
Nyonya Miriam talks about the current exhibition Now Boarding: Experiencing Singapore through Travel, 1800s – 2000s, which opened in May 2023 and has now been extended to 25 February 2024. She describes the journey of putting the exhibition together, from the conceptualisation, through four thematic sections (namely transport, accommodation, food and beverage, sights, and shopping), to dreaming up the key highlights like the iconic analogue flipboard previously located at Changi Airport and a set of the history-making Singapore Airlines’ A380 prestigious Suites Cabin seat. She excitedly shares that the travel-themed pop-up rooms (namely the travel lounge, hotel, and disco) are very popular with the visitors.
