I recently saw a book in the library which is a reprinted 1988 book on singapore architecture. It is such a wonderful book and I would like to own it. but this book is no where else in sale even in Books Kinokuniya. This book marveled my eyes as it documented all the information on Singapore architecture and it seems to mention alot of how the locals (even babas, influence the outside architecture, and the interior design).
The auther is Lee Kip Lin. (Haha, sounds similar to the PA President Lee Kip Lee. But its definitely not him) According to the preface, this guy is a famous architect in Singapore. Do anyone here know of this guy? Coz if there are, I would like to find the auther to buy a copy of this book. I am just hoping he would still keep some copies for himself. Coz according to Books Kinokuniya, they never had this book before. I tried MPH Parkway Parade before they closed down, they said they used to stock this book but they do not have any of the stock since it was reprinted in 1988.
Hi Jyun, My suggestion would be since its so difficult to buy, why don't you do the very popular thing that used to be done around 20 years ago and have one made for you for a small amount of $$$. Some places were so popular at that time, we had to line up for ages just to have one made for us. I also saw an article on the net about contemperory architecture in Malaysia, Sg, Malacca and Penang round about the early 1900s referring to those old shophouses with the kaki lima on the front, double storey and with mixed influences in the frontage design and deco from Asia and Europe. Cheers.
Hi Jyun, Try and look at this site on the Net where you can find discussions about "The old shophouses as part of the Malaysian Urban Heritage". Type in these words in MSN and search and you will find the old shophouses all over Malaysia which refer to the kind of architecture which was practised during the older Peranakan generations as well as for the new Chinese from China. My great grandfather's house is one of them, see if you can find it, ha ha. ;D
