What is the fabric used for making kebeya? The type of fabric we often seen is very soft, thin and translucent.Anyone know where can I buy this type of fabric?

    Hi rose,

The material you are looking for is called "Rubia".  It is a type of English voile.  Now no longer produced.  You can get Swiss import voile from Arab Street - plain weave.  It costs quite afforable but if you go for the highest end and very fine and thin swiss voile with woven pattern and embroidery, it can get rather expensive around $110 per metre.

Hi Rose..I used to buy my Swiss Voile from Majeeb if I spell it correctly..They are located at Paramount Shopping Ctr in East Coast Road..Their are better quality than those in Arab St..Older Nonyas who wore kebayas will know who they are as they have been around for ages during the 50s in Hill St..:)

    Hi

Majeet is no longer in Singapore.  It seems their shop in Paramount is a forsaken store now.  Anyway, Majeet owner has moved to KL now.
