I would like to invite some speakers of Baba Malay for the linguistic data collection, which is merely confined to academic purpose. The purpose is to analyze the structure of this language, which is hardly heard in public. It is indeed our duty to find a way to preserve this language, from a linguistic perspective. My team, composed of a Professor from Taiwan and two of his students, is coming here in Singapore, staying Feb 9th to 13th. I am currently working at NUS as a visiting fellow. I have a formal letter from the head of the department of Chinese Studies at NUS to identify my academic purpose. Please help. Or tell me where and how to find an informant. No limitation of education background, gender, or age. You are uniquely welcome. Many thnks. Raung-fu
Hi Raung-fu -- I have come across a number of your appeals on this Forum, but strangely enough not even one soul responded.
As yet :)
I am delighted by your interest, support and effort to preserve our unique Baba Malay language. What is more amazing that a Professor from Taiwan is doing all this. This puts us all to shame. Both Genuine and Otherwise.
Please count me in. You could contact me privately or I shall do so shortly.
I have some time to squeeze in on 12th February. Would that fit your and your colleagues' schedule?
Look much forward to hearing from you. I am most happy to help you all in any way I can.
If you are interested, there are three books which I own which focuses on peranakan words and phrases which may be useful to you. Would u be interested to look at it?
