Hey there!
I am a student in secondary school now.
well, I am doing a project work, and my group chose to do on Peranakan kuehs.
However, we are supposed to find the recipe and the comings of that particular food.
I am doing on the Kueh Kusui.
I managed to find the recipe of it...
but I couldn't find the comings of it...
I sure hope that someone will help me get through with my work... :D
I know Singaporeans are so kind! (I am too!)
so help me, Kays?
[move]Please and thank you![/move] :)

um...
When I say about comings,
I mean about how were these kuehs created, made, and what is the reason for creating it... so on and so forth.
Its really hard to find the comings of these kuehs on google and other search engines.

Goodness! What have become of English words?

I feel like I am from Mars when I speak to the younger people ...

Recently I heard a friend telling me that he will see me "in a bit".
I was horrified! "See me in a bit" ??? A bit of what ??? Does he want to see me in bits and pieces or does he want to see a bit of me? Which bit, I do not know.

I then realised that he had meant to see me in a while!

I think the word should have been "origins". In other words the beginnings of something like when and why and by whom it was introduced. How it was cooked, made or decorated is another matter. ;)

Apa punya English tu? "Comings?"

Fiona dearie, "The Why's and Wherefore's" is a much proper word. Not that we oldsters are being *un-hip* or un-cool just because we don't [what's with the rubbish "DUN"?] use your teenaged slangs.

We had our fair share of slangs in our days. BUT we made sure we are understood and come across as comprehensible.

Sloppy Words = Sloppy Minds = Sloppy Person. Not the kind of impression you would want to give to others.

Goodness, even my late great-grandmother who would be 117 years old if she is still alive spoke and wrote BETTER English than younglings these days.

And you all are supposedly better-educated and have the INTERNET to acquire better knowledge. For crying out loud.

Btw: "Hey there!"

You are not addressing your friends or peers of your age. So, mind your manners, young lady. If you don't start being polite at this young age, you are not going to get far in life.

Kurang hajar sekali ni skarang punya budak.
