    To Jyun, Exo and betul,
I was just wondering if any of you would consider a nice event somewhere in Singapore simply to get fellow Peranakans together to enjoy each others' company doing something like a huge BBQ somewhere at Pasir Ris or Sentosa and the other event could well be a sporting one where each Peranakan member can pitch his or her skills at 10 pin bowling and have a good laugh showing others your world class skills or how koyak your bowling is!

Do get this whole event videoed or photographed for others to see who were not involved and also for our future generations too. The sole purpose for this type of event is to get people of all interests to get together to do things they enjoy and no need to show others how much richer you are or how much cleverer you are and all the khiasu stuff we see everyday at the Club, at work and even at Church and down Orchard Rd. If you could organise such events during school holiday times, it would even be better with a bigger attendance and the kids will be there too to see what the adults are up to.

For the BBQ, charge a nominal fee on top of the entry fee and let them bring their own stuff like food and equiptment if there are none there. Some Nonya food side stalls will be interesting here as well as Nonya wear and other items of interest like beaded shoes, handbags, sarongs and kebayas and so on will get the whole crowd really tuned back into Peranakan culture we knew of so many years ago. For the 10 pin bowling event if you are having this, I don't think the ladies can bowl in their sarong and kebayas, but if the whole alley is taken up for a reasonable entrance fee, you could still put up a few nonya food stalls and nonya wear/fashion just for the many there who will not be bowling, but just looking and cheering their teams. Cheers.

Unfortunately, I haven't excited anyone here into doing something like this for the Peranakans of Singapore and Malaysia. It would be nice to have such an event, more on the social side of things rather than official meetings and presentations which do become very boring to many except for the office bearers looking forward to receiving their votes again. If you haven't tried this way of getting all the Peranakans to get together and swing and have a very good time with no pressures and no worries, then do it before Christmas 2008!! Christmas time, most of the people will be travelling overseas to enjoy their well earned bonuses and commissions so you won't find them hanging around locally. As for me I can't be there unfortunately due to personal reasons, so have a good time and record it here in videos and pictures for all those not able to attend to see what all the fun and noise it was.

How about a peranakan party complete with dondang sayang and skit for all to enjoy. If this is advertised now till november it may bring a new boom to the peranakan culture.

Would the Dondang Sayang Assn help in this. I thought the Peranakan play is always a sell out.

I better register for membership before Christmas. As a member can we bring another true blue Nyonya who is non member?
