Hi everyone,
We had our CNY Peranakan Assn of Aust(Melb) dinner last night and almost all of the 50 odd ladies came in their sarong and kebayas, blings as well as their kasut manek2. It was very nice to see all of them dressed so well and so authentically. They guys came in Chinese suits and some in batik shirts and normal pants.

The food was superb, all home cooked by members and we even had a dish of plain buah keluak with some herbs, etc with it. We also had a singalong of Peranakan songs, a nice pantun by a gentleman, a Peranakan skit(play) and plain nonya dancing or jogets which set the ball rolling ;).

I have found that most of the ladies are interested in making their own manek2 shoes as a hobby and are looking for supplies of all the materials required if anyone here can help. No need for the Swarovski crystal beads which can be a bit too expensive for most. Normal glass coloured beads or even the plastic ones will do just to show the bright colours.
