    Hie

I'm presently tracing my family history. My dad is an Indonesian Peranakan, and my mum's from China.

Well, I'm not sure am I still considered a Peranakan ! ha ha ha
But one things for sure, I could spot a Peranakan among my friends or even on the street. Dont ask me how, its just the way we look. And my gut feelings. Most time, I'm right on the spot right !

Someone said we're able to trace our roots via ordering our parents IC from the government. This way, I'd have easily find my maternal and paternal grandparents names thru my parents IC.

From which ministry could I order it from ?

    Does anyone knows ?

Registry of Births or maybe Citizenship Registry I can't confirm. If he was born in Indonesia then his records won't be in Singapore? ???

    Hi joylee,

I would still recognise you as a peranakan due to your dad's heritage.  I have the same parentage too.  My dad's a singapore peranakan and my mum is a chinese teochew.

    cheers,

possibly as your father is come from the peranakan trace, you are be able to consider as a peranakan. Infact, The ethnic you are, is that follow your father's ancestry in Chinese culture. However, In view what we can consider ourselves is to our mind that want to. If you in love with Peranakan ethnic, You are the peranakan. Just like me, 5 Generation live in Cambodia through the time of war and chaos with some of part in ancestry culture to be abandone, I desparently to keep it up and called myself Cambodian Hokkien or Hokkien after all.
